Company idents and ligatures
We've been asked to come up with ideas for designs for a cd cover for the band of our choice including a band ident
The following are a few ways in which designers use letters to form a company ident
Letters can also be joined together to make one pleasing form, they should be easy to read and be distinguishable and legible as separate letters but also come together as a single form.
Band Ident and CD packaging project
Classic rock and psychodelic rock artwork styles and how they've informed styles through the decades from the 1960s until today.
The early hippy imagery and movement was largely political and was spurred on by the anti vietnamese war movement as illustrated by the peace symbols. You can also see that the artwork is constructed in an anarchic way by the use of graffiti

Moving into the mid to late 70's the album artwork becomes ever more fantastical, bands like The Grateful Dead and Fleetwood Mac used the artwork that we recognise today and still use today.

To the left Joss Stone's Album cover makes use of the ligature and idents from above. The J and T are joined and the S appears to continue across from one side to the other. The Souls sessions cover has the same fantastical feel as the earlier artwork but the swirls and typeographic effects were obviously made in Illustrator as vectors.

Below the Isle of White Festival still uses fonts and styles which are strongly reminiscent of 70's psychedelia.
In the case of the Pink Floyd and U2 posters the type forms itself around the illustrations.
